Statement by a Number of Writers, Journalists, students, Political Activists, and Labour Activists
In condemnation of the Soma mine explosion disaster in Turkey
We, a number of left political activists, journalists, writers, students, and members of the workers unions, claim that the disastrous explosion at the Soma mine in the western province of Manisa in Turkey that killed and wounded hundreds of mine workers and survivors, should not be assumed to be a natural disaster, but a manmade human tragedy -and we blame capitalism as the main cause of such deadly and destructive calamities.
This was not the first, nor will be the last time that the working class becomes the victim of the capitalism’ exploitative policies. The Turkish workers are not the only victims. The international working class, with its common pain, grieves, and demands, not only are deprived of their just rights, but it is at their expense and lose of their lives that capitalism survives on an everyday basis.
In the meantime that we, express our sympathy with the Soma mine workers, their families, and survivors, we demand an immediate end to the violations of the workers’ rights, the outbreak of such atrocities, and the inhuman policies practiced by the ruling governments against the working class – that in the most inhumane ways result in workers’ deaths and bring their physical, mental health, and livelihood at risk and we believe that only “the working class alliance” will save them from all these miseries..
