STOP THE WAR AGAINST IRAN

IStopping this war is not a matter of left or right, a matter of religious belief or political preference. When civilians are murdered on a large scale and societies are torn apart for political and economic purposes, this is an attack on our collective, universal humanity that we strongly condemn. Regardless of whether the perpetrators are ‘allies’ or not. No one can win this; everyone loses.

STOP THE WAR AGAINST IRAN

Call to the Dutch government:

We, the undersigned organizations and citizens, express our deep indignation and condemnation regarding the military attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran.

These attacks constitute a serious violation of international law and of the sovereignty of Iran. The use of military force without a mandate from the United Nations undermines the international legal order and increases the danger of further escalation in the Middle East.

Stopping this war is not a matter of left or right, a matter of religious belief or political preference. When civilians are murdered on a large scale and societies are torn apart for political and economic purposes, this is an attack on our collective, universal humanity that we strongly condemn. Regardless of whether the perpetrators are ‘allies’ or not. No one can win this; everyone loses.

As citizens and civil society organizations, we must not remain silent. Therefore, we call upon the Dutch government to do everything within its power to contribute to de-escalation, diplomacy, and political solutions instead of war.

We expect the Netherlands, following Spain’s example, to explicitly speak out against this war and to call upon Israel and the US to immediately stop the attack on Iran and to uphold international law. We expect the Dutch government to reject regime change as an instrument of international politics and to fully commit to peace, the protection of civilians, stability, and international solidarity.

STOP THE WAR AGAINST IRAN!

Why is there no justification for this war?

Some have tried to justify this war with the argument of regime change. This argument  is not new. In recent history, similar interventions, including in Iraq and Libya, have led to devastation, prolonged instability, and immense human tragedies.  It is not up to major powers such as the United States, and certainly not to the genocidal Israeli government, to determine through military interventions what kind of government other peoples should have. The principle of state sovereignty and the right of peoples to determine their own political future are among the foundations of international law.

In the Middle East, a regional war has now emerged in which various states are directly or indirectly involved. The longer the attacks on Iran continue, the further the Middle East becomes entangled in an endless new spiral of violence. Due to the involvement of major powers and the consequences for the global energy supply, this violence could quickly take on a global dimension, with disastrous consequences for humanity and the planet.
