The 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Necessity of Change in the Approaches to Governance of the Islamic Republic of Iran
The Organization of Peoples’ Fadaian of Iran (Majority), as a patriotic and peace-loving organization, regardless of the nature of the government in Iran and the treatment of its members and the people, has stood by Iran wherever the national interests of the country are at stake and has fought against coercive sanctions, military aggression, and the imposition of a devastating war on Iran. At the same time, we have repeatedly emphasized the need to restore diplomatic relations and economic cooperation on an equal footing with all countries in the world, including the United States of America.
Based on this principled view, the Political-Executive Board of the Organization of the Peoples’ Fadaian of Iran (Majority) has considered the opportunity provided on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly as a historic opportunity to reduce tension and a beginning to return to diplomacy and prevent a repeat of a military attack on Iran, and expects government officials to spare no effort to break the deadlock. We hope that the meeting between Mr. Pezeshkian and Mr. Macron, and Mr. Witkoff’s declaration of willingness to return to the negotiating table could overcome the dangerous situation of “neither war nor peace.”
It is in the interest of the country that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not hesitate to declare its readiness to return to diplomacy and negotiations with the United States. The cessation of negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America is a major setback for the peace-seeking efforts and an exceptional success for the criminal government of Israel. Mr. Khamenei says, “Negotiations with the United States are harmful.” The discussion is not about negotiations; our point is about the harms of the lack of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
At the same time, the fact is that the Palestinian problem is the central issue at the 80th United Nations General Assembly. On the one hand, the criminal government of Netanyahu has become the most hated and isolated government on earth by continuing the genocide in Gaza, and on the other hand, the idea of peace, through the formation of an independent Palestinian state in the territories occupied in the 1967 war, has led to the formation of the largest international coalition with the participation of 142 countries in the world.
The Organization of the Peoples’ Fadaian of Iran (Majority) believes that the agreement of 142 countries in the world to recognize the independent state of Palestine and approve the resolution called the “New York Declaration”, which was drafted at the initiative of Saudi Arabia and France, is a symbolic effort, but of historical importance. Iran’s absence from this historic agreement not only did not heal the pain of the Palestinians and the defenseless people of Gaza, but also led to the continuation of the gap and distrust between Iran and other countries in the world.
In these very sensitive circumstances, the Organization of the Peoples’ Fadaian of Iran (Majority) once again emphasizes that correcting the policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s leadership towards the Israeli occupation, and joining the global demand for a two-state solution and the formation of an independent Palestinian state, will not only be a heavy blow to the occupying Israeli government, but will also act as a decisive driving force in curbing that government’s plots to escalate tensions in US-Iranian relations.
The bitter truth is that even after the implementation of the three-pronged conditions of the three European countries, namely accepting inspectors, tracking uranium reserves, and negotiating with the US, given the unpredictable behavior of the US leadership, as we saw in the 12-day war, there is no guarantee that the current Israeli government and the most radical elements in the Trump administration will not act in the same way as they did last June. We are aware of the fact that we can never and should not believe that changes in the country’s foreign policy will necessarily eliminate the pressure of sanctions or the risk of a repeated military attack on the country. Therefore, we, along with other patriotic forces of Iran, demand the strengthening of the country’s defense power to protect the country’s air, sea and land borders.
Our country will not be able to withstand the pressures that may intensify, if the gap and distrust between the rulers and the people in the domestic political arena is so wide. The government without the national solidarity and without gaining the trust of protesting social groups, will never be able to safely lead the country through this expanding crisis. Reducing the sentence of a number of political prisoners is a drop in the ocean. The growing trend of issuing and executing death sentences must be stopped, all political prisoners must be released. All restrictions on the public and legal activities of political figures trusted by the people and the political parties must be immediately lifted. Illegal summonses must be ended. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s National Broadcasting must be removed from factional control and become a media outlet to reflect the reality of Iran’s colorful and diverse society. The government must implement a face-to-face dialogue with opposition political activists and meet the civil society demands.
Only in this way will our country and our people be able to withstand foreign aggression and pressure.
